The present musicians of Hindustani Classical music and all types of Indian string instruments including Sitar and Sarod follow the same technics of the musicians of the ancient period, who made good use of the three fingers of the left hand to play on the strings and the grip of the right hand to hold a plectrum or the fingers of the right hand.( Pg 74, Hindustani Classical Music written by Sarodia Abanindra Maitra)

Beginning in 1945, Khan also started recording a series of 78 rpm disks (which could record about three minutes of music) at the HMV Studios in Bombay. For one such record he conceived a new composition Raga Chandranandan ("moonstruck"), based on four evening ragas, Malkauns , Chandrakauns , Nandakauns and Kaushi Kanada . This record was a huge success in India, and the raga found a worldwide audience when a 22-minute rendition was re-recorded for the Master Musician of India LP in 1965 − one of Khan's seminal recordings. Prof. Irfan Habib, one of the most eminent living historians in India, would take us on a journey back into the medieval past of Delhi – the Shahjahanabad, to make us have a closer look at the socio-cultural relationships, religious co-existence, intellectual ferment and creative genius of the city of Mir Taqi Mir and Mirza Ghalib.

There have been claims that this is the oldest film recording of Lata Mangeshkar. There was a discussion on SoY which belied this claim. This song has a mix of many ragas, but the part ‘Shyam mose na khelo hori’ distinctly evokes Pilu.
